November/December Social Gatherings

I hope this finds everyone doing well. The lodge held a “social gathering” on October 13th. All social distancing procedures were followed. Rebecca has done a great job on making sure all of the surface areas, common contact areas, and basically the whole lodge is wiped down soon as she arrives at the lodge. Rebecca is definitely making sure your lodge is disinfected.

Everyone that showed up had a great time.. The bar was open for the gathering this month as some of the restrictions were lifted.

I plan on having a “social gathering” for the November and December meeting dates. I plan on following our traditional ham and turkey dinner for November and December. It has been a challenge to make sure the members and guest are being protected to the best of our ability but at the same time, making sure everyone has a great time.

Your Executive Board will remain the same. I have appointed Brother Iverson as Secretary and Brother Paige will remain as Inner Guard and assume the duties of the Chaplains position. Brother Richard Smith (Chaplain) and Brother Tiller (Secretary) have moved and are no longer part of the Executive Board.

I have all intentions of opening the lodge on January 12th for the regular meeting of General membership, door prizes and 50/50. I anticipate the lodge being fully operational by January 2021. We can only hope for the best.

Please be safe and keep everyone in your prayers.

October, 2020 “Social Gathering”

As it stands right now, We will be having a “social gathering” at the lodge on Tuesday, October 13th.
No lodge business will be discussed. Attendance is not mandatory. Social distancing will apply and ALCOHOL WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE BAR.
The normal dinner will be served. (steak, chicken etc…)
Please pass the word and TRY TO RSVP TO REBECCA, so we can sort of control the steak, burger and chicken supply and cost.

I hope to see the Brothers and Sisters of our lodge to gather, enjoy a meal and catch up with what is going on with everyone.
I will try and update if something should pop up, but we are a go on the 13th.

Thanks,

John Couey

September 2020

I hope this finds everyone doing well. The lodge held a “social gathering” on September 8th. All social distancing procedures were followed.

Everyone that showed up had a great time with no complaints. Per statue, we were not allowed any alcohol consumption on premise and that did not seem to bother any of the members as they enjoyed their dinner.

We are shooting for an October 13th gathering. As it stands at the moment, I plan on following our traditional ham and turkey dinner for November and December. I will keep you posted as things develop.

Please be safe and keep everyone in your prayers.

September “Social Gathering”

As it stands right now, We will be having a “social gathering” at the lodge on Tuesday, September 8th.

No lodge business will be discussed. Attendance is not mandatory. Social distancing will apply and NO ALCOHOL WILL BE SERVED AT THE BAR. The normal steak dinner will be served.

Please bear with us as we continue to wade through the various ordinances, rules etc… Please pass the word and TRY TO RSVP TO REBECCA, so we can sort of control the steak, burger and chicken supply and cost.

I hope to see the Brothers and Sisters of our lodge to gather, enjoy a meal and catch up with what is going on with everyone.

August 2020

I hope this finds everyone doing well as expected. Although we had our last “social gathering” in June, I was shooting for an August “social gathering”, but the numbers of Covid-19 will not give us a break.  As of today, we had 5,409 cases topping 500,00 with 225 new deaths. The lodge will not be having a meeting nor a “social gathering” on August 11, 2020. I was really hoping that as a lodge, we could gather for at least a “social gathering”. Your health and life is more important to me than a dinner.I can only shoot for an indoor meeting in September with door prizes, but I will continue to monitor and keep everyone posted via WWW.FLFOP108.COM.
Everyone please take care,

Fraternally,

July 2020

The June 9th “social dinner” went well. Attendance was optional and did not count against a member for not attending. Attendance was good and it was nice to see everyone that was able to attend.

No lodge business was discussed.

I was hoping that we would be able to have another “social dinner” on July 14th, but with the recent increase of Covid-19 cases within Hillsborough and the surrounding counties, it is in the best interest for the lodge and the members that the lodge not have a meeting nor a “social dinner” on July 14th.

I can only hope that all of our Brothers, Sisters and families are safe and remain positive as we navigate though this crisis.
We are remaining positive and can only hope that we are able to be back on track in August.

June 9th Meeting

The next scheduled meeting is June 9th. I am going to open the lodge for a “social dinner,” not a meeting for June 9th.  Attendance is optional and will not count against a member for not attending. No lodge business will be discussed.

The food servers and anyone kitchen related would be required to wear a mask. Any member wishing to bring and wear a mask is acceptable. State and County Covid-19 safety orders will be enforced along with social distancing.

The meal would be the same, just cut way down since it will be impossible to estimate how many members would actually come out. You would be able to get a drink from the bar, but you could not sit at the bar at anytime.
The Covid-19 rules will be posted and I expect everyone to follow the rules.
If you can please RSVP with Rebecca at 813-927-2355

May 12, 2020 Meeting

We have received numerous questions regarding the advisability of FOP meetings in light of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Our Constitution and Bylaws do not address states of emergencies under these circumstances, and Robert’s Rules does not offer any clear guidance. However, based on our review of the various emergency orders issued by state, county, and local governments, as well as the recommendations from the President of the United States and the Centers for Disease Control, we believe the circumstances relating to the outbreak of COVID-19 have made it impossible, illegal and impractical for FOP Lodges to hold meetings at this time.

Although the Governor is implementing “phase one” and opening some of the establishments on May 5, 2020. Hillsborough County is not opening County buildings until May 15, 2020. There is doubts, concerns and many questions that are not clear. In my opinion, the risk outweigh the rewards in trying to have a meeting in May 2020. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal for the June 9, 2020 meeting.
Hillsborough Sheriff’s Lodge #108 will not be serving dinner nor having a meeting on May 12, 2020.

April 2020

I hope this finds everyone well.
The April 2020 General meeting was cancelled due to State and County requirements. The Executive Board met via online, telephone or in person to discuss Lodge #108 business matters.
It was agreed upon to replace the existing carpet with new carpet in the main hall. There was no further business other than following the State and County Orders that are placed in effect.
I can only hope that we will be back up and running for the May 12th meeting. I will keep you posted.
